Cheaney Shoes Size Guide

Please note that this is only a guide, we always recommend you choose your normal UK size as the starting point but if this is not known then you can use the below to help make a decision.

How to measure your foot

  1. Wear the socks you’ll use with your new footwear.
  2. Stand on a piece of paper large enough to fit your foot, distributing your weight evenly.
  3. Trace around your foot with a pen or pencil, keeping it in an upright position.
  4. Measure from the centre of the heel to the tip of the big toe to determine foot length. For the width measure from the left most extreme to the right most extreme joint of the foot
  5. Measure both feet, using the longer/wider one to determine your shoe size.
  6. It’s recommended to measure your feet at the end of the day.
  7. Use the measurements to find your size using the below charts

When trying shoes on at home..

  1. We recommend you try shoes on, on a carpeted surface to avoid any damage to the soles. Do not walk outside or on a hard surface.
  2. Open the laces fully to minimise creasing on the upper and use a shoe horn, to slide your foot inside this will help protect the back part of the heel from damage.
  3. When trying on the shoes or walking in them, avoid fully flexing them. A few steps should be enough to determine if the shoes are too big or too small.
  4. You should not be able to fit your index finger between your heel and the back of the shoes when your foot is inside. This usually indicates that they are a full size too big.
  5. Slight heel slip is common with new shoes and will decrease as the shoes gradually mould to the shape of your feet over time.

What styles would suit a higher instep?

Look for styles with a 'Derby' or 'Gibson' type lace which allow more adjustment. Avoid Oxford styles such as Broad, Arthur III.

I prefer a wider shoe. What would you recommend?

Look for shoes available in a wider G Fit. The standard F fitting 12508 last is also considered 'generous'. We also offer a selection of footwear in H fitting which is extra wide.

What is a last?

The last is a three-dimensional form on which the shoe is constructed. The whole shape, proportion, and fit character of the shoe starts with the last. There is a last for every size and width fitting. If you identify a last which particularly suits your foot, any other style made on the same last will enjoy the same fitting characteristics.

The measurements show a different size to what I normally wear

If the measurements recommend a different size to what you normally wear, then stick to your normal UK size. Alternatively, you could order both sizes and return the one which isn't suitable.
